22 July Drive to Ngorongoro Crater for game drives in the crater. A morning’s game viewing in the crater is almost guaranteed to turn up four of the Big Five, as well as zebra, gazelle, warthog and a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Picnic lunch in crater. Return to the lodge in evening. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the natural wonders of the world. A large volcanic caldera, with an area of 259 square kilometers, it contains a huge variety of game and birds and is often referred to as a microcosm of Africa with its dramatic weather changes and varied terrains consisting of forest, grasslands and both freshwater and soda lakes.
23 July Depart after breakfast with a picnic lunch and drive via Olduvai Gorge, viewing game en route to the Serengeti. It is at Olduvai Gorge where, in 1959, Mary Leakey made her groundbreaking discovery of a hominid (human-like) skull dating back 1.8 million years. Since then other hominid species, possibly our early ancestors, have been found in the area dating as far back as 3.7 million years. The whole area is often referred to as the ‘cradle of mankind.’ Here you will spend 4 nights at the Serengeti Migration Camp including all meals and game viewing activities. Hidden among the rocky outcrops or kopjes of the vast, internationally renowned Serengeti plains is a camp that exudes a decadence reminiscent of old Africa. The Serengeti, is synonymous with low impact high action game viewing in a landscape untouched since the dawn of time. Richly furnished throughout, the camp provides a haven of sumptuous indulgence among the raw splendor of the surrounding bush. It’s spacious tents have been carefully placed to provide privacy and blend into nature’s architecture, overlooking the Grumeti River and its resident hippos. Surrounded by a 360 degree verandah deck and with a capacious, 45 square meter, internal floor space, each guest tent is a private sanctuary. The split level lounge, cigar bar, restaurant, sundecks and swimming pool are
perched among the outcrops and overlook the vast and rugged landscapes that are home to the world’s greatest mammal migration.
